Friends of Trees invites you to help rake leaves for elderly residents between November 10th and 13th. The Portland Leaf Harvest is encouraging individuals and groups to help each other out with fall cleanup. When you sign up as a group with FOT, they’ll provide leaf bags, tips, and waivers for disposal at city leaf depots.  You just need to find the people in need in your community, and rake their leaves.

A brownfield is a site where contamination – or the possibility of contamination – is preventing use or redevelopment. This event, “Restore our Community, Rebuild our Wealth,” will focus on local brownfields and economic community development.

Race Talks, a discussion series sponsored by Multnomah County, will tackle the complex and sensitive topic of how race has impacted a local transportation project. This event’s topic is “Coming Together on North Williams Avenue: Reconciling Neighborhood’s Past with Proposed Bike Lane”.

Following the presentations, the audience wil break into small discussion groups to talk over the evening’s subject and more general topics of race and ethnicity. These groups are facilitated by trained volunteers from Uniting to Understand Racism and Portland’s Intergroup Dialogue program.

Board meetings are open to all neighborhood residents and people who work or own businesses in Woodlawn.

Calling all Woodlawn Neighborhood Association board members: WNA is holding a special meeting this Saturday to review grant applications.

The grants are for the following things:

1) To help boost membership by providing food, childcare and outreach for the association.

2.) To help with the Easter egg hunt, a neighborhood yard sale and National Night Out.

3.) To fund cooking classes in the community garden.

The meeting is at Good Neighbor Pizza, 800 N.E. Dekum St., at 4 p.m.

We need as many board members as possible to attend. The meeting should only take a half hour and could go along ways towards making our association and neighborhood stronger.

The Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) hosts a free panel discussion and Q&A about the history of economic development in inner N/NE Portland with an eye cast toward discovering future economic development opportunities.

Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods has a new committee that is launching a speaker series.

The Community Economic Development Council will present its first speaker series with a talk Nov. 1 on the history of economic development in inner North and Northeast Portland.

The event takes place at Curious Comedy Theater, 5225 NE Martin Luther King Blvd., and will include refreshments.

Speakers will be Dr. Karen Gibson, Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and Portland State University;
