Join the Portland NE Neighborhood Violence Prevention Committee to learn about current trends in violence affecting youth, crime prevention tips, and information. Help determine next steps for keeping communities safe. Come to the first meeting, and be part of the solution!

May 16: Disaster Preparedness Plan – your input is needed!

In recent months, a team of urban planning students at PSU has been working with the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods to develop a Community Disaster Preparedness Plan. One action we have identified is locating community information hubs in each neighborhood. If traditional communication methods were to fail after a disaster these hubs will help facilitate the flow of information between neighborhoods and ultimately from the neighborhood and coalition to the city and beyond. We have developed criteria for siting these hubs, but it relies on local knowledge only those familiar with the neighborhood can provide.

Please come join us at the May 16th Woodlawn Neighborhood Association meeting at Woodlawn Methodist Church where we will begin identifying possible hub locations. Your input is needed!

Mar. 22: Candidates’ Forum on Education

The Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods and Concordia University are co-hosting a mayoral and city council candidates’ forum focused on education on Thursday, March 22nd, at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6:30pm.

The Woodlawn Neighborhood Association March meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at Woodlawn Elementary School, 7200 NE 11th Avenue, in the auditorium. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM and childcare will be provided. This month, a Portland Public Schools Central Office Official is interested in collecting feedback from the Woodlawn Neighborhood about what is important to us as a community. Light snacks provided. Please plan to attend this important meeting!

Feb. 28: Mayoral & City Council Candidate Forum

NECN and Concordia University are co-hosting two forums featuring Mayoral and City Council Candidates. The first will be Tuesday, February 28th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Concordia University’s Hagen Campus Center (2nd floor), 2800 NE Holman Street, Portland (map).

The first event will focus on community livability issues such as jobs, transportation, safety and other requirements for thriving, healthy communities for all.

For every dollar you save in an Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) you get two extra dollars, to be used for home purchase or repair, college education, and more. Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives is holding an open house on Tuesday, February 21st, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at their main office at 6329 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland.

Interested residents should bring with them current and complete proof of income for the last two months as well as information about assets (car, house, savings) and liabilities (loans, mortgage, debt or bills). Red Cross Disaster Preparedness training for Woodlawn neighbors

Woodlawn Neighborhood Association invites residents to learn about how to prepare for a disaster. Join us at Classic Foods, 817 NE Madrona, January 18 from 7-8:30p.m. Child care and refreshments will be provided. Details here.

Please note that this training is instead of our usual monthly meeting.
