Come join us at the Northeast Portland Tool Library on Saturday, February 27th, for a free seed swap and library stock-up event to kick off the new gardening season!  We have a wide range of seeds available that you can take home to start or supplement your garden for 2010.  You may find some interesting local varieties that you wouldn’t see at the store!  If you have seeds of your own that you’d like to share with others or with the library, now is a great time to bring them in.

The event will be from 11AM to 2PM at the Tool Library (in the basement area of the Redeemer Lutheran Church – 5431 NE 20th Ave).  In addition to swapping seeds and stories, we’ll also have info about upcoming gardening and seed-saving workshops.  For more information, please contact Chris Price ( chris// @ //digitalnotions.com ).  Hope to see you there! We post a lot of important community involvement info here on GoWoodlawn, but there is plenty of room for additional topics, too. Would you like to share a favorite recipe? Gardening tip? Share a story? Voice your opinion on a hot topic? Thank someone for a good deed? We have room for all that, and more!

Send your ready-to-go articles to News // at// GoWoodlawn.com. Articles may receive a slight bit if tweaking for clarity’s sake. Please read this information before sending any articles. Contributions may be submitted at any time.

We look forward to reading what you have to say – and sharing it with neighbors.

The Woodlawn neighborhood was fortunate to be involved in a visioning process with the city. The result was the Woodlawn Triangle Master Plan [ read more here], a plan created by over 100 engaged neighbors to help guide our neighborhood’s growth.

I think the name of that plan is important, and it was a consciously chosen name. Lately I’ve been hearing our neighborhood’s retail district referred to as the Dekum Triangle, and while that’s an accurate description given that our retail is mainly on Dekum, our vision plan chose a different name. In the planning process, a neighbor (perhaps it was historian Anjala Ehjelebe) brought up the point that it would wonderful to choose a name that honors our neighborhood, more so than honoring only the street that runs through our neighborhood. We weighed the options, Dekum Triangle… Woodlawn Triangle… rolled those names around, had discussion, and collectively the people at that meeting (the two large meeting had around 100 and 50 people, respectively) decided to go with Woodlawn Triangle.
