Neighborhood Clean-Up May 28: Get that old stuff ready, and get ready to volunteer!

WHERE: Henry V Events at 6360 NE MLK Blvd.

Don’t you hate the dreaded Spring cleaning (cupboards, closets, basement, garage, car)? Well, we can make it easier on you because after all that hard work, you can dump all your unwanted stuff in one place! No need to make the inconvenient dump run (think price of gas & fees), or hope to flag down a metal recycler pickup, or schedule trips to thrift stores, or keep stacking up all your unused computers/monitors/printers/cell phones, etc. No! Just load everything into your vehicle and come dump on us! Plus, you’ll get a wonderful bag of helpful info and local coupons!

This is Woodlawn’s ONLY fundraiser, and suggested DONATIONS are based on vehicle + size of load ($10 and up); extra for tires ($3) and e-waste ($5-$10).

We’ll take almost everything: household junk, metals, glass, furniture, e-waste, Styrofoam, bikes, and ALL reusable/fixable items (we donate to nonprofits).

PLEASE DO NOT BRING (we will reject):
–Yard debris / Concrete
–Hazardous materials (paint, oil)
–Large appliances (washer/dryer/fridge)
–UN-bagged garbage

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

We need LOTS of hands (between 8:00AM and 2:00PM) to post signage before, take tickets & money, direct traffic, help unload vehicles (BIG job), sort items (BIG job), keep order, and clean up after. In turn, you’ll get great food and drinks, a good workout, and some neighborly camaraderie.

Volunteer 2 hours or more, and you can dump ONE carload for FREE!

Community Outreach of Our United Villages is sponsoring a Youth Forum for Social Change where youth can come together to share their hopes, dreams, and ideas for the future. As the next generation, youth lead the way in shaping the communities that we all will live in. The Forum will be an exciting chance for youth to exchange ideas and brainstorm actions to create social change. We’ll watch thought-provoking videos, engage in lively discussion, and share diverse perspectives on creating a world that works for all. Our hope is that youth will leave feeling inspired and empowered to be the change they wish to see in the world!

Saturday, April 28th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at McMenamin’s Kennedy School Community Room, 5736 NE 33rd Avenue, Portland.

Northeast Coalition of Neighobohoods invites all to join the converstation at Exploring Economic Development: Components of a Healthy Community for a chance learn and join discussions about trends and resources in education, health care, jobs, food, transportation, capital and housing, and how they contribute to a healthy community!

Groundwork Portland is offering a series of workshops at Emerson Street Garden, all free. All ages are welcome. Come learn gardening skills through hands-on activities in the garden, and learn about your community. The next workshop is Saturday, March 31st, which will focus on garden layout. Learn how current state, regional and city policies shape neighborhood-level community economic development. Panelists will address how high-level policies translate into community benefits. Speakers will include representatives from state, regional, city and community perspectives. A question and answer session will follow panel presentations. Details here.

Feb. 6: Mayoral candidates discuss transportation

“Local Motion” will pose questions to Portland mayoral candidates Eileen Brady, Charlie Hales, and Jefferson Smith on active transportation in the Portland metro area. They will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on a range of transportation issues including public transit, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, equity considerations, funding concerns, public health and safety, and projects that impact the Portland region.

Monday, February 6th, 7:00 to 8:30pm followed by a reception, at Lincoln Performance Hall, Portland State University, 1620 SW Park Avenue, Portland. Free and open to the public on a first-come basis.
