Portland Parks Seeking Volunteers for Natural Areas in Woodlawn Park

Portland Parks & Recreation’s Natural Area Stewardship program works with volunteers of all ages to help enhance and restore Portland Parks natural areas, to provide habitat to wildlife and insects, and provide safe trails to park visitors. The program is currently looking for volunteers said Parks for a monthly park stewardship event in Woodlawn Park on the last Friday of every month from 8 am to 11 am. You can check their calendar online to sign up. FYI— Groups of five or more must register in advance by setting up a group event with one of the Parks stewardship coordinators.

What kind of help is needed? Below are some of the stewardship activities you can help with in Woodlawn Park as well as other sites around Portland:

• Remove invasive plants and plant native vegetation to improve plant diversity and animal habitat
• Maintain native plantings by weeding, watering, and mulching
• Participate in community science projects.
• Maintain trails and fences to protect plants, animals, water quality, and people
• Collect and dispose of litter and debris
