Alberta Park now has the first nature patch in the city of Portland. Completed in 2018 as the first pilot for the Ecologically Sustainable Landscapes Initiative, an acre of struggling grass under a stand of Douglas fir was converted into a lush forest garden. The Alberta Park Nature Patch features a unique variety of native and ornamental plants, nurse logs, root wads, boulders, and an accessible gravel path. These enhancements not only add beauty and natural elements to explore but improve habitat for birds and other native pollinators.
