NE Holman is one of the Woodlawn streets that is a Portland Neighborhood Greenway. As stated on the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) website: “Neighborhood greenways are low-traffic and low-speed streets where we give priority to people walking, bicycling, and rolling. Neighborhood greenways form the backbone of the city’s Safe Routes to School network and connect neighborhoods, parks, schools, and business districts. Portland has more than 100 miles of neighborhood greenways in every part of the city.” Last year, PBOT completed the Lloyd to Woodlawn Neighborhood on NE 9th Avenue which now connects up with NE Holman. NE Holman is the street where there is a blackboard on a fence that, from time to time, is chalked in wisdom that might make a person stop, ponder, and reflect. One of the inspirations offered to people passing by during those first days of pandemic isolation is in the photograph above. Be someone who makes someone else look forward to tomorrow. Food for thought. Good words to live by.
