Volunteer at the Portland Council PTA Clothing Center to Help Woodlawn School

November 14, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Volunteers Needed

Wednesday, November 14th from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm
The Portland Council PTA Clothing Center is a committee of the Portland Council PTA and PTA volunteers from every school in the Portland Public School District are needed to keep the Center running successfully.

Woodlawn Elementary’s PTA is responsible for staffing the Center on November 14th.

The PTA Clothing Center is located at the Marshall High School Campus: 3901 SE 91st Ave • Room C-56 (map) and is open for students to receive clothing on Monday and Thursday school days from 10 am to 1 pm, September through April.ABOUT THE CLOTHING CENTER: Since 1964, the Clothing Center’s sole purpose has been to furnish age-appropriate clothing for children. By caring for the basic needs of our youth and allowing them to dress as their peers, we are encouraging positive self-esteem, academic success and regular class attendance. We share the Portland Council PTA’s purpose to give every child a chance.

QUALIFYING CHILDREN: All Portland Public School children that do not have access to age-appropriate clothing are eligible to be referred to the PTA Clothing Center.

REFERRAL PROCESS: Portland Public School Principals or School Secretaries fill out a school-year referral form for each student needing the Clothing Center’s services. Once the student has the completed form, they may come to the Center once before winter break and once after winter break of that same school year.

CLOTHING: We accept donations of gently-used clothing from school-run clothing drives, school lost and found items, and concerned community members. Donations of money from our local PTA’s, individuals, and caring businesses provide our children with new jeans, underwear and socks.

What Types of Clothing Donations Are We Looking For? Jeans, Pants, Leggings, Coats, Warm Hats, Gloves, In-style Shirts & Sweaters, Dresses and Skirts, Shorts for gym class & play, Sleepwear, Belts, Backpacks and Lunchboxes.

What Types of Clothing Donations Are We NOT Looking For? Stained or dirty clothing, Adult or Career Clothing, Clothing Needing Repair, Well-worn or Out-of-Fashion Clothing

We are in need of gently used clothing for students in sizes 4T through 4X to fit a preschool child up to a high school student. Donations of new and gently used clothing may be brought to Marshall Campus or dropped off at any PPS school. We also need school supplies for students in need. Volunteers are welcome to come and be a student’s personal shopper or to help sort through donations to hang up.
